A hurricane evacuation route is a Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) designated route used to direct traffic inland in case of a hurricane threat. Routes are signed in the field to direct traffic. Each route has design characteristics that best facilitate evacuation. Some routes may facilitate contraflow or the act of directing both sides of a divided highway to flow in the same direction away from the hurricane.
