This layer contains boundary polygons depicting the 2014 State of Georgia's House Districts. State Legislative Districts (SLDs) are the areas from which members are elected to State legislatures. The SLDs embody the upper (senate) and lower (house) chambers of the State legislature. The Georgia General Assembly created the boundaries and they were approved by Governor Nathan Deal. Under the Voting Rights Act, the boundaries still need to be approved by US Federal Courts.
This data should be used for general mapping and identification. The boundary information in the TIGER/Line Shapefiles are for statistical data collection and tabulation purposes only; their depiction and designation for statistical purposes does not constitute a determination of jurisdictional authority or rights of ownership or entitlement and they are not legal land descriptions.Coordinates in the TIGER/Line shapefiles have six implied decimal places, but the positional accuracy of these coordinates is not as great as the six decimal places suggest.
This data will be used by a variety of GDOT information systems for identifying the percentage of a given projects within a district.
GDOT downloaded the data from: http://www.legis.ga.gov/Joint/reapportionment/en-US/default.aspx
Metadata was not provided, but prepared by GDOT and reviewed by the State of Georgia Joint Reapportionment Office. The data input sources, accuracy, and creation scale are based on US Census TIGER/Line Shapefiles from 2010.
GDOT removed fields for the estimated voting and estimated population counts to reduce end user confusion in working with the data. Voting information was not assessed as being needed for Department operations and population counts should be attained from US Census data directly.

Feature Class
Attributes are as accurate as data source inputs were at generated point in time. Accurate against Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS), FIPS Publication 6-4, and FIPS-55 at the 100% level for the codes and base names. The remaining attribute information has been examined but has not been fully tested for accuracy.
The Census Bureau performed automated tests to ensure logical consistency and limits of shapefiles. Segments making up the outer and inner boundaries of a polygon tie end-to-end to completely enclose the area. All polygons are tested for closure.
The Census Bureau uses its internally developed geographic update system to enhance and modify spatial and attribute data in the Census MAF/TIGER database. Standard geographic codes, such as FIPS codes for states, counties, municipalities, county subdivisions, places, American Indian/Alaska Native/Native Hawaiian areas, and congressional districts are used when encoding spatial entities. The Census Bureau performed spatial data tests for logical consistency of the codes during the compilation of the original Census MAF/TIGER database files. Most of the codes for geographic entities except states, counties, urban areas, Core Based Statistical Areas (CBSAs), American Indian Areas (AIAs), and congressional districts were provided to the Census Bureau by the USGS, the agency responsible for maintaining FIPS 55. Feature attribute information has been examined but has not been fully tested for consistency.
The Georgia Joint Reapportionment Office utilized Census TIGER/Line Shapefiles and added estimated voting and population counts to these boundaries. Using formulas, the boundaries were created.
The Georgia Department of Transportation reformatted the data to be consistent with its use and application within the agency.
This data is authoritative from the Georgia General Assembly.
Completeness is assessed by legislative and federal approval of the boundaries into law. Data completeness of the TIGER/Line Shapefiles reflects the contents of the Census MAF/TIGER database at the time the TIGER/Line Shapefiles were created.
